The explanation provided does not align with ATO rules or the customs documentation for my shipment. Forward2Me does not appear on the ATO’s register of GST‑registered overseas suppliers, the import declaration shows no GST was paid, and the invoice issued does not meet the requirements of an Australian tax invoice. I remain happy to resolve this privately, but the public explanation is inconsistent with the official documentation.
We’re sorry to hear you are dissatisfied with the charges applied to your shipment. We would like to clarify that Forward2Me is registered with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and holds a valid Australian Business Number (ABN), which allows us to collect and remit GST in line with Australian regulations for low-value imported goods.
For shipments valued at AUD $1,000 or less, GST is correctly applied at the point of sale on both the value of the goods and the shipping cost, and is not collected again by Australian Border Force at import. This is standard under current Australian import GST rules.
The commercial invoice submitted for customs clearance is a declaration of the goods’ value for import purposes and does not separately itemise GST. GST is instead charged and itemised on the shipping invoice provided to the customer at the time of booking. Our ABN is included on the customs documentation to confirm that GST is being correctly accounted for under our Australian registration.
All applicable charges are clearly itemised on the shipping invoice provided at the time of booking.

To clarify on GST, for low-value shipments to Australia, GST is collected at the point of sale and recorded against our ABN. The commercial invoice used for customs clearance reflects the declared value of the goods and shipment but does not itemise GST separately, as this is handled through our invoicing and reporting process rather than at import.

While we’re pleased to hear that the repack helped reduce the parcel size, courier pricing is based on set weight brackets (using either actual or volumetric weight), so in some cases a reduction in size may not always move a shipment into a lower price tier.
For future shipments, one way to make shipping more cost-effective is to take advantage of our 30 days of free storage. Many customers choose to consolidate several purchases into a single shipment, which can significantly reduce the overall cost per item when shipping internationally.

Regarding repacking, we always recommend this step when parcels arrive in their original retail or domestic packaging. While plastic bags are often suitable for local shipping, repacking into a more suitable outer carton helps ensure the goods are better protected for international transit, where handling conditions can be more demanding.
In many cases, repacking multiple items together can also help make shipping more cost-effective by optimising space and reducing volumetric weight. This is something customers can take advantage of alongside our free 30-day storage, which allows time to consolidate parcels where needed.
We do understand that customs fees can sometimes feel significant, especially for smaller shipments, but these are determined by local authorities and are outside of our control.

Due to recent changes in US import rules, we’re currently not able to offer postal services for low-value shipments to the US, and options are now limited to express courier services.
We always try to keep shipping as cost-effective as possible, but for smaller parcels this can sometimes mean the prices are higher than expected.
For future shipments, it may be worth consolidating multiple items into one parcel where possible, as this can help provide better value for shipping.

Support service is excellent when you’re not sure how to go about it.
For first timers- I wanted to buy shoes in the UK and get them to South Africa.
I was given a “forwardtome” address in the UK. Got the shoe company to deliver the shoes there.
Chose one of the options of which courier company to do the leg to RSA.
Once they arrived at the depot, forwardtome got the courier company to collect and deliver.
Had to pay import duty when requested by courier company and received my shoes.
Only way I was able to get this particular brand of shoes, so it may have cost extra but it was necessary and worth it for me.
Very trust worthy company.

I bought a jacket that weighs 800 grams. The shipping calculator on their website gave me an estimated price of £23, but they ended up invoicing me £97. Total crooks!
Here’s how they do it: the calculator shows cheap shipping options like DPD, but when it’s time to actually ship, they only leave the most expensive ones: UPS and FedEx. Also, while the jacket weighs 800g, they billed me for 4.8 kg. Don't fall for it—you’ll definitely regret using them. The price doesn't match their promises at all!
We see you shipped from our UK Tax Free warehouse (0.80 kg, 59x42x13 cm). Shipping costs are calculated using volumetric weight, which in this case (6.44 kg) is higher than the actual weight. All couriers (e.g., DHL, FedEx) use this method.
For oversized packaging, we offer a combine & repack service via your account inbox. If no savings are possible, your package is returned.
Tax Free means UK sales tax is excluded from your purchase, not that you are exempt from destination duties or taxes. You remain responsible for any charges imposed by customs in Guernsey or other countries. Savings from UK sales tax can help offset shipping costs, but check if it’s beneficial compared to mainland UK shipping.
