Package Flagged for Repacking

2 min read

Our processing team flagged your package because, as it arrived, it may not travel safely on a long international journey. Repacking it helps protect your items and can keep your shipping costs down. Here's why a package gets flagged, and how to approve a repack.

Why We Flag a Package for Repacking

A package is usually flagged for one or more of these reasons:

  • Fragile contents. Items like glassware, ceramics, or electronics (such as laptops and smartphones) need proper internal padding, which the original retailer may not have included.
  • Damaged packaging. The box arrived crushed, torn, or damp, and may not survive the multiple handlings of an international journey.
  • Excessive empty space. A box that's too big for its contents is more likely to be crushed when stacked, and it can cost more to ship. Repacking to a better-sized box reduces this risk and often lowers the volumetric weight.
  • Irregular shape. Items in tubes, soft bags, or poly-mailers can be pulled from automated courier systems or attract manual-handling surcharges. Moving them into a standard box shape helps keep costs down.

How to Approve the Repack

  1. Log in to your forward2me account and find the flagged package.
  2. Select Combine & Repack for that package.
  3. Choose "Repack for Safety."
  4. Confirm the fee. The repack service fee is £3 / €3 / $3 / ¥600, depending on your warehouse location.

Once you've approved it, we'll repack your package and move it forward for shipping.

Why We Recommend a Safety Repack

It adds a small fee, but a safety repack helps in three ways:

  • Courier compliance. Your package is more likely to meet the packaging requirements of couriers like DHL, FedEx, and UPS.
  • Protecting a damage claim. If an item is poorly packed, a damage claim can be declined on the grounds that it wasn't sufficiently protected. Having us repack it properly helps keep your items eligible for a claim if something goes wrong.
  • Potential cost savings. Removing excessive empty space can reduce the final box size, which sometimes saves more on shipping than the repack fee costs.
  • EU packaging rules (for EU shipments). Since August 2026, the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) limits how much empty space e-commerce packaging can contain. For shipments to the EU, reducing excess space helps your package meet these rules.

Our priority is to help your items reach you in good condition. To move your package forward, please approve the repack request in your account.
