Some shipments need extra import-related documentation to clear customs including but not limited to:
- import licenses;
- Power of Attorney (POA);
- broker documents;
- TSCA forms (a US chemical-safety requirement);
- Personal Effects form;
- FDA documentation (for certain food, drug, and cosmetic products entering the US).
forward2me is not responsible for obtaining or submitting these documents. As a forwarder, we don't act as the importer of your goods, so we can't prepare or file import documentation on your behalf.
Responsibility for import documentation generally sits with you, as the person importing the goods. Please note that who counts as the importer of record can vary by destination country and shipment.
For more on this, see Exporter and Importer of Record.
Why This Matters
Certain items are subject to regulatory requirements, and customs clearance can be delayed or denied if the right documents aren't provided. Preparing them in advance is the best way to avoid hold-ups at the border.
What You Should Do
- Check the specific requirements for your destination country with your local customs office.
- Make sure all documentation is ready before your shipment leaves the warehouse.
- Contact a licensed customs broker for help if you need it.
