If you're shipping food items to the United States, you may need to submit an FDA Prior Notice before your shipment arrives. An FDA Prior Notice is a notification to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that food products are being imported into the United States, so the FDA can review and assess incoming food shipments.
For what food you can and can't ship and the general rules, see our Shipping Foodstuffs page.
How to Submit an FDA Prior Notice
Create an account. Register in the FDA system at access.fda.gov.
Complete the Prior Notice form. Once your account is set up, select "Filing Prior Notice of Imported Foods." You'll need details such as:
- Product description
- Manufacturer details
- Country of origin
- Quantity and packaging details
- Importer / receiver information
- Shipment details
Send us the confirmation. Once it's completed, send us the Prior Notice confirmation so we can add it to your shipment records and review removing any hold.
