EORI and Customs Clearance at Our German Warehouse

1 min read

An EORI number is an EU customs registration. If a package is sent to your forward2me German address from outside the EU, it may need import customs clearance before it can be delivered to our warehouse, and the courier – usually DHL – may ask you for an EORI number. Here's what that means and what to do.

Can I Use forward2me's EORI Number?

No. forward2me's EORI number can't be used for your personal shipments. An EORI number is linked to the specific importer or business responsible for the customs declaration. Because you're using forward2me as a parcel-forwarding service – not importing goods as part of forward2me's own business – our EORI number can't be provided for your shipment.

What to Do If DHL Asks for an EORI Number

Explain to DHL that you're a private individual receiving a personal shipment, and that it should be processed as a private import, not a business import. DHL will then advise you on the correct customs process and any documents required for a private shipment.

Why forward2me Doesn't Clear Incoming Customs

Under our Terms of Trade, forward2me isn't responsible for clearing goods that arrive into our German warehouse from outside the EU. Any import requirements, customs documentation, duties, VAT, or fees are the responsibility of the recipient, as the importer.

How to Complete Customs Clearance

You'll need to handle clearance directly with the courier by providing the information they request – they'll guide you through the process and the documents needed.

You can use DHL's customs clearance portal (DHL4You). Choose the private option, then complete the form with your personal and shipment details so DHL can review and process the clearance:
