Taking the Tablets...

We’re already been seeing plenty of tablet computers coming through our warehouse after the July launch of Google’s Nexus 7. Competition in this fast-moving market is about to get hotter still with the official UK launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 on 4th August – (although it’s already available from some online retailers).

As the names suggest, the Nexus has a 7-inch screen while the Galaxy’s is 10-inch. So the Nexus is smaller, and so is its price – £159 for the 8GB, or £199 for the 16GB version. Both come with a £15 credit to spend on Google Play. Expect to pay around £299 for the Galaxy, which is 16GB and wifi only (sadly, no 3G).

If your budget extends just a little further, check out the online-only offer from UK retailer Currys – a £25 voucher when you spend more than £300 on any tablet. That, of course, makes Apple’s mighty iPad just a little more affordable, particularly if you opt for the still-available iPad 2 instead of the third-generation tablet. But you’ll need to be quick – the offer ends on 2nd August.
