Bargain hunting...

Bargain hunting has become a bit of a national obsession in the UK. Whether it’s antiques or toothpaste, everybody loves a bargain. There are car boot sales full of amateur enthusiasts trying to spot bargains before the professionals get there first. But what’s the online equivalent? Is it possible to have as much fun bargain hunting online?

Here at forward2me, we all love a bargain too. Here are some of our online hunting shopping tips...

Antiques and collectables

The Saleroom and Ukauctioneers are well-known online auction houses that act as a portal between the auction house and the customer. You can even bid on some auctions ‘live’ (if you can keep awake) or leave bids with the auction house. Contact the auction house directly for details if there’s something you have fallen in love with. Set yourself a price limit too – it’s easy to be swept away in a bidding war and end up paying far too much for something. Some things are just not meant to be...

There will be commission and delivery charges to pay, so research thoroughly. Please check that they will deliver to your forward2me address and the country you are shipping to has no restrictions regarding the items that you intend to purchase before you place that winning bid... There may also be taxes to pay/export/import duties. If in doubt, contact our customer services department for advice.

What to look out for

Research the subject first. Find out what’s hot and what’s not. Prices vary - one year’s hot cake may be next year’s hot potato. Buy what you really like; that way if it’s an investment that has to sit around for a long time to gain in value, you won’t mind giving it space. Choose small items of high quality – even buttons, hat pins, pens – interesting little items that are easy to keep and enjoy. Select objects with a good maker’s name before using our secure international shipping service to deliver it to your door.

Bargains galore

If antiques don’t set your heart alight, there are plenty of other bargains to be had. Fashion outlets such as ASOS, designerdiscount and theoutnet have designer and high-street fashions at knock-down prices. Brandalley is very popular for fashion and if you 'team' your outfits with the latest shoes (I'm even getting the lingo now), try spartoo. Bon Prix and H&M are at the affordable end of trendy fashion. With our door to door tracked service, you can be a knock-out at knock-down prices.

Electricals and homeware

Argos is hard to beat and they even have a dedicated clearance section where you can pick up electrical and other goods (just make sure that they are compatible with where you live first). Check out Amazon too. For a more sophisticated bargain shopping experience, why not become a member at Achica? They specialise in designer homeware and electrical goods.

EBay is always good for a bargain – search for auctions that are closing at unusual times and you might find you’re the only bidder. Watch out for the postage and packaging, they can add to the final cost of an item; although here at forward2me, we’re very reasonable! There are also sites like madaboutbargains and hotukdeals that have a constant stream of information about discounted goods.

Why not have a look at Voucher Cloud - there's a number of online discount codes which you'll be able to use when shopping online.

Don’t forget to take advantage of cashback schemes – check out this blog from a few weeks ago – you might find you can even make money whilst you shop. Happy hunting!
