National Bed Month – how well are you sleeping?

If you love a good night’s sleep or a weekend lie in, you’ll love the subject of this blog! It’s ‘National Bed Month’ in the UK – an awareness campaign to get us all to think about whether our bed is up to scratch. After all, we spend around a third of our life in bed – so shouldn’t we be sure that we’re sleeping on a comfy, supportive and safe mattress?

According to research by The Sleep Council, replacing an uncomfortable bed with a new bed could result in an increase of 42 minutes sleep per night. So what better time to look for a new bed!

The UK is home to some brilliant bed manufacturers. Here is our guide to some of the best places to shop for all things beds and bedding!

Adult beds

Whether you prefer a single, double, king size or super king bed, investing a comfortable and stylish bed is something we all deserve!

When selecting a bed, you’ll need to think firstly about the type of frame you’d like – wooden, metal or fabric – or perhaps you’d prefer to opt for a divan base. If you’re tight on space, storage may also be a handy feature in a bed – ottoman beds offer the perfect solution with lots of room.

Then, you’ll need to select the perfect mattress – with choices including the firmness/softness of the mattress and the material it’s made from.

Despite the sheer number of choices, there are a number of websites that make bed shopping easy. Two of our favourites are Bed Guru and Big Brand Beds.

Children’s beds

When children sleep well, it can make so much of a difference to the whole family. Children are growing all the time and having a bed that provides a comfortable night’s sleep as well as all the support their bodies need is essential.

Kids beds can also be fun as well as functional – bunk beds, cabin beds, midsleeper beds and multi-functional sleep stations are brilliant, with many providing plenty of storage too.

Take a look at Bedroom Furniture Direct and Little Lucy Willow for both fun and functional choices.

Bed linen

There’s nothing better to tempt you to an early night than a new set of bedding. Whether you prefer the simplicity of a white duvet set, love a pretty print or tend to opt for something bolder, there is a dazzling array of bedding on the market.

We love Style my bedroom and Dunelm Mill – both of which offer a range of qualities of bedding sheets and duvet sets.  For British Classics, head over to Bedeck for a range of brands including Sanderson, Joules and Harlequin.

Live outside the UK? You can still get your hands on beds, bedding and much more via forward2me’s parcel forwarding service. Yes, we even ship large items like beds and bedroom furniture! For more information or to get a quote before you buy, please use our quote tool.
