Festivals, food and fun

From England’s oldest festival, the Preston Guild, to the famous Blackpool Illuminations, there’s plenty going on for us just now near forward2me’s depot.
Celebrated only once every 20 years and dating back to 1179, the Guild is definitely the biggest thing for Preston in 2012 – and it’s the first time it’s been held since Preston gained City status back in 2002. The Guild kicked off at the end of August and is drawing big crowds to a huge range of concerts, exhibitions and shows.
Perhaps even more well known are the Blackpool Illuminations – dubbed ‘the greatest free light show on earth’ – which have just been switched on. A much-loved autumn feature of the Blackpool seaside resort just 16 miles (26km) away, they run for a spectacular 6 miles (10km) along the sea front – even the historic trams are specially illuminated.
Just up the coast from Blackpool, Morecambe’s two-day seaside festival featured fun for all the family, with air shows, firework displays and live music.
And on a slightly smaller scale – but right on our doorstep – we’ve been enjoying the ‘craic’ at the Oyster Festival. There are oysters straight from Connemara, Ireland, as well as plenty of Guinness, great music and energetic Irish dancing. It all makes for a memorable night!
So that’s how we keep ourselves busy when we’re not working hard at forward2me. After all, you know what they say about ‘all work and no play’…
