Celebrate Ramadan and Eid with these buys

The month-long Muslim religious observance Ramadan begins this year on 15th May, concluding the evening of 14th June. Regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam, Muslims abstain from food and drink during daylight hours throughout the period of Ramadan. Commemorating ‘the best of times’, Ramadan celebrates the first time the Koran was revealed to Muhammad, according to Islamic belief.

The holiday of Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the next lunar month and concludes the period of fasting and other demonstrations of self-discipline Muslims practice during the month.

In a recent article in the Guardian, it was discussed how supermarkets and retailers in the UK are increasingly targeting Muslims during the month of Ramadan, leading to a rise in spending on food and gifts. Interestingly, in what is largely an untapped market for mainstream brands, a number of companies have launched special ranges and products this year in celebration of the festival.

Here we look at some of these products and also at other ways to celebrate Ramadan and Eid.

Greetings cards

Despite being in the age of online. sending a card is still one of the most popular ways of passing on your good wishes. Funky Pigeon has a great selection of Eid cards, some of which can be personalised with your own message on the front or a photo. Clintons also has a range of both traditional and modern Eid cards, some of which can be bought as a multipack.

Balloons and decorations

Eid and Ramadan balloons are an easy and affordable way to decorate a room. We particularly like these foil balloons that spell out Happy Eid, Ramadan Mubarak or Eid Mubarak.

On the theme of decorations, the collections available from Silver Lining are particularly chic.

We also like these takeaway treat boxes and hamper gift tins, both of which are designed especially to celebrate the occasion.

Countdown calendars

A countdown calendar is a great way to build the anticipation as Eid approaches. This felt hanging calendar is ideal for helping to teach children and also comes with 15 Unisex gifts to place in the pockets.

Cosmetics and skincare

We all want to look our best – especially during times of celebration. This year, the Body Shop has a range of gorgeous gifts to celebrate Ramadan and Eid.

For creating that all-out glamour make-up look, take a look at cult beauty brand Huda Beauty or MAC cosmetics.

The end of Ramadan is cause for celebration, so why not choose a new outfit for the occasion? Andaaz Fashion has collections for the whole family especially for Eid and currently has a 10% off promotion. For gorgeous looks from a range of brands, take a look at Memsaab.
